TNF-R2 Implicated In Kidney Decline In T2D.      6/19/2014

Medwire (2/8, Robertson) reports that a study published online Feb. 1 in the journal Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice suggests that "circulating levels of tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 (TNF-R2) are independently associated with the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in nonobese Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes [T2D]." Investigators "examined the relationship between inflammatory biomarkers and other variables and the presence of CKD in 106 nonobese patients who had a mean body mass index of 22.2 kg/m2 and a mean diabetes duration of 11.5 years." Multivariate analysis revealed that soluble TNF-R2 "was the only inflammatory marker that was significantly associated with the development of stage 3 CKD in the patients."
